Bernhard Rust- Minister of Education:The task of implementing Gleichschaltung into German society was to be an incredibly challenging job. Thus, someone applicable for the position must be granted the task. It was Bernhard Rust who was granted this position when Hitler came to power in 1933. Rust had been a member of the Nazi party since the beginning and was a qualified teacher. Hitler deemed this man best for the job and Rust was appointed Minister of science, educations and cultural affairs (Trueman, 2000).
Immediately, Rust set out removing teachers who were not loyal to the movement. He would simply dismiss teachers for failing to give the Nazi salute to students. He further implemented learning courses focusing solely on Nazi principles for teachers to undertake and ensured that only government approved materials could be used in classrooms (Trueman, 2000). He eventually abolished Jewish children from attending school.
